FAQs

Are all your dresses and accessories pictured on the website?

No, we have a constantly changing stock of genuine vintage dresses, plus a selection of gorgeous vintage shoes, bags, veils, jewellery, gloves and all kinds of vintage gorgeousness! It’s not possible to professionally photograph all of them as soon as we get them, so we keep some secret treasures at the boutique. If you want to know if you have a particular style of dress in stock, please drop us a line and we can send you some details and a few snap shots.

Do you have any dresses in my size?

We stock a wide range of dresses from approximately a UK 6 to 16. Vintage dresses tend to be on the small side and many of them were made to measure so it’s difficult to size them accurately using today’s size range. We work with a fabulous seamstress who can usually reduce/increase a dress by 2 or 3 sizes and we can re-model a dress to fit larger sizes. With vintage, we find it’s always best to find the dress of your dreams and alter it than to just limit yourself to dresses in your size. If in doubt, please ask us and we’ll let you know what’s possible.

What if I’m getting married really soon!?

You’ve come to the right place! The advantage of having a vintage wedding dress is that the dress you see in the boutique is the dress you wear on your wedding day. There’s no 6 month delay while we order a new one in for you... the dress is the dress and it’s available to take home with you the day you buy it. Most dresses require some alterations, but we work with a seamstress who can work to very tight deadlines so we can get you looking perfect in time for your big day.

What condition the dresses are in?

In keeping with guidance from The Vintage Fashion Guild, we try to avoid the use of the term ‘in good vintage condition’ as it doesn’t tell you an awful lot really. Instead, we try to give as much information we can in the comments on the ‘Our Dresses’ page and we’ll also be happy to send you any close up pictures of any marks, blemishes or damage to the fabric. Most vintage dresses require some repair work and/or cleaning and our seamstress can take care of this while she’s doing your alterations. However, many of our dresses are in immaculate condition and absolutely pristine. Have a close up look for yourself by making an appointment or just ask!

Where is the Honeybomb boutique?

The Honeybomb boutique is a hidden gem tucked away in the heart of Chester city centre. We’re at 68 Watergate Street in between the Chester Guildhall and the Waikiki bar - just across the road from Bar Lounge and The Custom House. On the ground floor at 68 Watergate Street you’ll see the window display of Baron Fine Art - come into the building through the big grey door to the right of Baron Fine Art and you’ll find the Oliver & Co Solicitors waiting room straight ahead through the glass door. Take the stairs to your left and you’ll arrive at the 1st floor hair salon, VAIN... take a left through their waiting room and go up a further flight of stairs and you’ll see our super-cool 2nd floor hideaway signposted to your right. If it’s easier, just give us a call when you get to Watergate Street and we’ll come and collect you!

How do I book an appointment?

Please contact us. We’ll always respond within 24 hours to let you know our availability. Most of our appointments take place on Friday, Saturday or Sunday, but if you’d like to come in another day or one evening we’ll do our best to arrange this for you. We don’t offer a drop in service as we’ll be tied up attending to the brides at their appointments, but if you’re passing and want to pop in please call us on 07739986774 as we may well have a slot free for you at short notice.

What will happen at my initial appointment?

The simple answer to this is that we’ll have some fun! We only ever book one bride in at a time and you’ll have a full 2 hours with the place all to yourself. You can browse through our collection of dresses in the boutique and then try on as many as you like in our spacious dressing room. We’ll supply the cups of tea or glasses of fizz and you can tell us all about your engagement and the plans for your wedding! All our appointments are run by owner Heather, who has expertise of vintage fashion and knowledge of the entire collection so will be able to help with all of your questions. And you’re free to take as many photos as you like. We want this to be a fantastic experience for you and will do everything possible to make your visit really special.

Can I bring a friend along?

Absolutely! The more the merrier. We encourage you to bring along anyone who you would like to help with your dress decision; friends, bridesmaids, mums, dads, aunties, grandmas... we’ve even had the occasional husband-to-be tag along! The can all sit in comfort in our vintage lounge as you swish around trying on our dresses. It’s all very relaxed and friendly. But likewise, if you’d rather come alone, that’s fine too... and we’ll give you our honest opinion on the dresses you try ...if you ask!

What’s ‘Va Va Voom Vintage’?

Each Honeybomb dress is a stunning illustration of a bygone era; the very fibres of the fabric are steeped in fashion history. The term vintage is generally used to describe anything over 50 years old and the Honeybomb Va Va Voom vintage collection ranges right back from the turn of the century to the 1960’s and we cover ever era in between. All of these dresses are 100% authentic, genuine vintage gorgeousness.

What’s ‘Retro Luscious’?

According to the experts, ‘retro’ can actually mean two things - either clothing between 20 and 50 years old or a brand new item which references a style of the past. Our retro collection is a combination of both pre-loved and brand new dresses in keeping with the style of our authentic vintage collection... so it’s the vintage of the future!

What happens once I’ve bought my Honeybomb dress?

Firstly, congratulations... this is just the start of the fun! It’s likely that your dress will need at least some alterations so we will arrange for a fitting with our experienced bridal seamstress. You will already have paid for your dress upfront and then any alteration costs will be payable directly to the seamstress. We will keep your dress safely at the boutique throughout all of the fittings until you’re ready to collect it just before your big day. Or you can take it with you and arrange for your own alterations, it’s entirely up to you. If you’re buying online, we can also arrange for your dress to be posted to you. Please contact us for postage costs and information.

What’s the significance of the Honeybomb bow?

As we wave a fond farewell to our gorgeous gowns, we’re delighted that they will be brought to life by their new owner and we’re very proud to have found the dress of your dreams, but at the same time, because we love them so much, we’re a little teary to see them fly the nest ...so in our last moments together with our dresses, we hand sew a little blue Honeybomb bow into the lining as a memento of your experience with us. This is your ‘something blue’ and a wish for you from everyone at Honeybomb for a wonderful sparkly wedding day and a long and super-happy marriage.

What if I have any questions you’ve not covered on your website?
